History of Habib Bank Limited
Habib Bank Limited is launched in Pakistan in 1947. His main office moved to Karachi . Our first international branch was set up in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1951 and Habib Bank Plaza was built in 1972 to remembered the bank’s 25th Anniversary.
Over market share is 40%, HBL was nationalized in 1974. International operations is expanded to include the USA, Singapore, Oman, Belgium, Seychelles and Maldives, and the Netherlands.
On December 29, 2003, GOVT. of Pakistan is announced that the banks are privates, The Government of Pakistan privatized HBL in 2004 through AKFED acquired 51% of Banking Pk’s shareholding and the management control.
And the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) rights to 51% of the shareholding in HBL. Against an investment of PKR 22.409 billion (USD 389 million).
The management control was to AKFED On February 26, 2004. The Board of Directors was remade to have four AKFED nominees, including the Chairman and the President/CEO and three Government of Pakistan candidate.

HBL was the first commercial bank to be set up in Pakistan in 1947. Some years later HBL has grown its branch network. It is maintained its position as the largest private sector bank. It have 1,600 branches and 1,700 ATMs .
The Government of Pakistan privatized HBL in 2004. Privatized through AKFED acquired 51% of Banking Pk’s shareholding and management control. The remaining 41.5% shareholding by the Government of Pakistan was removed in April 2015.
